The short version
Momentum is a personal alarm app. Your alarm times, exercise choices, and streak data stay on your device. We don't sell data, run ads, or track you across other apps.
What we collect
Momentum collects the minimum needed to make the app work:
- Alarm data — times, days, exercise types, and sound selections you configure. Stored locally in your device's app storage using AsyncStorage.
- Streak data — a list of dates on which you completed a morning challenge. Stored locally on-device only.
- Camera frames — used in real time to count exercise reps. Frames are processed entirely on-device using a local ML model. No frames are transmitted, recorded, or stored anywhere.
- Subscription status — whether you have an active Momentum Pro subscription (or, for legacy v1.x buyers, grandfathered lifetime access). This is fetched from Apple via our subscription provider (see Third-party services) using an anonymized device identifier. We do not receive your name, email, billing address, or card details.
- Apple ID (optional) — if you choose to Sign in with Apple, we receive an anonymized user identifier from Apple. We never receive your email unless you explicitly share it.
What we do NOT collect
- Analytics or usage telemetry
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA/GAID)
- Location data
- Contacts or calendar data
- Any data from other apps on your device
- Camera footage — frames are processed in-memory and immediately discarded
Permissions we request
- Notifications — required to deliver your scheduled alarms. Without this permission the alarm cannot fire.
- Camera — used when an alarm fires to count reps via computer vision. You are prompted the first time an alarm fires.
- Motion & Fitness (Walk challenge only) — used to count steps during a Walk challenge. Not requested for other challenge types.
None of these permissions enable ongoing background data collection.
Third-party services
Momentum uses the following third parties, each limited to the stated purpose:
- Apple Sign In — optional authentication. Apple's privacy policy governs the sign-in flow: apple.com/legal/privacy.
- Apple In-App Purchase / App Store — handles all payment processing for Momentum Pro subscriptions. We never see or store your card number, billing address, or Apple ID email. Apple's privacy policy applies: apple.com/legal/privacy.
- RevenueCat — validates Apple's purchase receipts and tells the app whether your Momentum Pro subscription is active. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app-generated user ID (not your Apple ID, name, or email) and the receipt data Apple returns at purchase time. Their privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy.
We do not use Google Analytics, Firebase, Amplitude, Mixpanel, Meta SDK, Stripe, or any analytics, advertising, or third-party SDK beyond the two listed above. All payment is handled by Apple; we do not process payments independently.
Data retention & deletion
All alarm and streak data lives locally on your device. Deleting the app removes all data immediately.
If you have signed in with Apple:
- You can delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete account inside the app. This revokes your Apple Sign In token and clears all local data.
Children
Momentum is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app gains new features that affect data handling. Material changes will be noted in the App Store release notes and on this page with an updated effective date.
